Sapphire X1600Pro HDMI gets sound

Consumer Electronics Show 2006 So far, they are the only one

SAPPHIRE CAME OUT with a very interesting card at CES, a version of the mid-range X1600Pro with HDMI. The card has two outs, VGA and HDMI, along with a really unique feature, sound.

Most people don't realise that HDMI supports sound transfer as well as video, it is a one cable fits all thing. There were a handful of graphics cards floating around the show, and as far as I saw, none put sound across the channel.

Sapphire added a SIL chip to the card to generate sound, and pumped it out across the link. Interesting, cool, and so far, quite unique.µ

Will graphics cards built with Nvidia's Fermi GPUs be a hit?
