Google Earth sparks illegal pool parties

Social skinny dipping
Thursday, 19 June 2008, 13:34

POLICE IN BRITAIN’S boring south-west are warning of an alarming new craze sweeping the region, whereby hordes of scantily-clad teens organize flash mob parties in strangers’ pools, using Facebook and Google Earth.

The phenomenon, aptly dubbed “dipping”, has yoof scouring Google Earth for houses in their vicinity equipped with big outdoor pools, to select as venues for their off-the-cuff parties.

Venue selected, the organisers post details and instructions on Facebook, advising people to come in 'fancy dress' and with a bike, in case a quick getaway is required.

Police reckon there have already been several 'horrific' cases of residents waking up in the middle of the night, only to find hordes of semi-naked and attractive young things living it up in their pools. Oh the dismay!

Others have apparently come home from work to find their pools full of empty beer cans. This is understandably more upsetting, because it means the party is over and nobody bothered to invite the poor shlub now having to clean up the mess.

A spokesman for Devon and Cornwall Police noted that the situation would only get worse as the weather improved and the summer holidays tempted rich pool owners away on holiday.

“We are advising owners of swimming pools to be on their guard and extra vigilant”, said the party-poopering police spokesman, who added “We would also warn prospective swimmers that using someone else’s pool is trespassing and therefore illegal”.

He’s probably still upset that nobody thought of inviting him. µ

I welcome it.

I caught a bunch of kids 'dipping' in my pool a year ago over here in the states. Needless to say, I was pissed.

So i did what any logical man would do in a case of blatant trespassing: Pulled out my tweaked (600FPS) airsoft rifle and started shooting these youngsters. Now, there are reasons most airsoft events are limited to 400FPS guns: The skin starts to break over 550FPS. These kids were literally crying as they stumbled off my yard, fearing for their lives (which they had every right to do).

It was pretty funny, and I knew they wouldn't go to the police. I haven't had a problem since.

No brainer

If I had a pool, I obv must have money to buy a cheap colour camera. Id just tape the pool. Im sure if you give enough clear tape evidence and a few of them get grabbed by the cops it would bring the whole activity to a halt, especially if everyone started doing it.

To Phobos: The problem in doing what you did is that a single firebomb through a window would cost you more then a cleanup after a pool-attack. People that do these things dont think like normal people.

Shocking

It's only a matter of time before someone throws a live extension cable in their pool before they head off on holiday.

Because the pool owner is liable for all drownings...

Either the pool owner must prevent unauthorized use ( attack dobermans/shepherds around pool ), OR

the owner must do penitentiary time for any drowning that happens in their pool, as a result of such activity.

The law, is the law.

( as for Phobos,
it's a felony to point a firearm at someone, in many jurisdictions )

Impact of Google Earth

isn't google party responsible for providing people with the information to carry out these sorts of activities..... The impact of google earth is yet to be really realized.

Flawed Legal System

The fact that a pool owner could be held liable for drownings of trespassers is ridiculous. This legal system is majorly flawed.

It reminds me of a story where a burglar trying to break into someones house fell off the guys roof, broke his leg, sued the homeowner, and WON!

Only in the US...
