A SENIOR JAPANESE developer of upcoming Role-Playing Game Enchant Arm for the Xbox 360 has warned that the DVD standard may not cut it anymore.

Speaking to Gamespot, he said that "The volume of data in Enchant Arms won't fit into a single DVD. It's an RPG, so we're thinking it would be inevitable that we release it on two discs. But to be honest, that's even looking grim."

Microsoft had been mulling putting higher capacity DVD replacement HD-DVD drives in the Xbox 360, but until the Blu-ray vs HD-DVD race to replace DVD is a little more settled the company is laying off the move with the Xbox 360, saying instead that future versions of the console may ship with the format.

For now however the volume of data in modern videogames, for which we were so happy to see DVD's when videogames were shipping on upwards of five CD's, is increasing exponentially and soon we will be seeing multi-DVD packages until the next generation of high-capacity discs arrive in the mainstream. µ
