Hamas said to be putting Islamic filter on the web

THERE ARE RUMOURS THAT Gaza’s Hamas overlords may have struck a deal with a Palestinian telecommunication provider to censor web sites thought unacceptable to Islam.

According to Monsters and Critics, Ihab al-Hussain, a spokesman for the Interior Ministry in Gaza, has said that an agreement to block web sites containing what is effectively porn, had been signed between Hamas and Paltel, and was already in effect as of last Thursday.

Paltel is the only Palestinian service provider, which means that if reports are true, Gazans will be left porn-less on top of everything else they are forced to go without.

When approachedby the INQ, Paltel said that it could not immediately comment on the reports, but that its CEO, Dr. Abdulmalik Al Jaber, would be giving a press conference tomorrow. Nobody at the Hamas government PR office was available for comment either. µ
