WD goes green

Energy efficient driving
Monday, 12 November 2007, 15:56

GREEN IS ALL THE RAGE at the moment, and not just with the Incredible Hulk. Manufacturers are falling over themselves to release environmentally friendly PC parts, and Western Digital is just the latest in a long line.

The new range of Greenpower drives consume around five watts less than competing green hard drives and WD reckons that this saves about $10 a year in electricity over a normal drive. That sounds a little rich to us, but then, we're not the sorts to be leaving machines on overnight downloading the latest episodes of Desperate Housewives from Bittorrent.

The drives come in 500GB, 750GB and 1TB capacities, meaning you shouldn't need a new one for quite a while - which, we suppose, cuts down on waste. Expect the drives on shelves imminently. µ

I'm getting one today

I need a 1tb drive and one of these would be perfect. I'm sick and tried of loud, hot computers that distract you when you need to think.
