US customers can order an Athlon XP 2700+ now

While those in the UK have to wait for anything over 2000+

WHILE UK BUYERS ARE desperately seeking any Athlon chips that sport a PR rating of 2000+ or more, customers elsewhere will be able to pick up an AMD Athlon XP 2700+ (2.17GHz) OEM for $334.90 USD from this site, from Tuesday 26 November, 2002, we learn.

Back in Blighty, distributors have reported no new stocks of 2400+ chips, while 2200s are also few and far between. Some retail outlets are offering boxed 2400s to add to the baker's dozen we managed to dig up earlier. Staff at Micro Direct Ltd in Manchester wrote to say they had 30 in stock (£157.45 inc VAT each). And a few readers wrote to say Aria.co.uk had some OEM processors in stock. A quick squint over here shows they have "5+" on offer (at £155.69 inc VAT). Coo!.

ChillBlast.com has an unknown quantity in stock at £171.55 inc Vat and a few other outlets seem to have a handful each, our research reveals.

Looks like AMD wil have to get its skates on, or Santa could easily be diverted towards Satan Clara to pick up an Pentium, before heading towards British chimneys come the Holy Feast of Mass Consumerism.

Oh, and a chap called Michael Rodgers from uk.comp.vendors actually has a 2400+ that he bought from Komplett. Rumours of other sales are unsubstantiated at press time. µ

NEED A FAN for your 2700+? Check out the CAK 4 from Globalwin. "Global mouse will come soon, then you'll know", it says. Eh?
