A Leopard ate my Mac

Apple copies Microsoft's blue screen of death
Monday, 29 October 2007, 08:30

PUNTERS trying to install Apple's new Leopard operating system are experiencing crashes similar to Microsoft's Blue Screen of Death.

According to ComputerWorld, a significant number of Mac owners upgrading to Leopard reported the problem.

One of the busiest Leopard support forums reported how that installation appears stuck on a plain blue screen.

The problem happens after a successful Leopard install using the default " Upgrade" option and the required restart.

Some Mac users were so confused that they did as the operating system suggested and sat and waited. Some for up to six hours before they realised that it had crashed.

Others claimed that if they waited long enough the "blue screen of pause" would vanish eventually. Others claimed that this would only happen with the arrival of Godot and the Second Coming of Christ. µ

An APE ate my Leopard

The error is due to people not running the latest version of APE (App Enhancer). If you do a clean install or Archive Install, everything is ok.

Mac OS X 10.5: "Blue screen" appears after installing Leopard and restarting

Issue or symptom:
After completing an upgrade installation of Leopard and restarting the computer, a "blue screen" may appear for an extended period of time.

Products affected:
Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard

You may have third-party "enhancement" software installed that does not work with Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard.

"Make *sure* you have APE 2.0.3 or later installed *before* you install Mac OS X 10.5. If you have an earlier version of APE installed before you install 10.5"

Hmmm...

hmm, looks like the mighty Apple cannot test their own product properly even throught they only have a "few" models that they really need to make work on.

Can u imagine the amount of testing required for microsoft to make vista work on every PC?

Yet hasn't fail me yet.

IMAP issues

there also appears to be an issue with the new OS mail.app inregards to IMAP.

as in it doesnt seem to work. Once upgraded, people can see the folders, but no new emails while using IMAP across a variety of email server software.

there are problems in this article

this article is incorrect on several items

1. "The problem happens after a successful Leopard install using the default " Upgrade" option and the required restart."

actually that is not true, this new update is not an upgrade but an update. Why do they hold up continual updates and turn them into a release?

2 PUNTERS trying to install Apple's new Leopard operating system are experiencing crashes similar to Microsoft's Blue Screen of Death.
well reading
it might be new for apple but old for other operating systems. From what ive read on the features, theyre just rebranded features that have been available on xp. Heck even the blue screen of death has already been done since windows 3.1 and dos was know for the black one.
I can wait to see how they rebrand this one,

Not a BSOD

It is not a blue screen of death, it is a messed up preference file attempting to load at the login window. Usually you can simply boot to en external HDD or another mac and delete the login preference files in the main and user libraries and reboot back to normal.
