Hectoring might not be a good ruse, geddit?!?

Amd-apos-s-hector-ruiz---photo-copyright-breakthrough-publishing-limited-2004 FORBES REPORTED that Hector Ruiz, CEO of AMD, is attempting to persuade Dell to buy its Opterons, seeing as all the other tier one vendors are doing it.

Unluckily for Hector, Dell has a preferential relationship with the biggest X86 chip company, and this kind of persuasion may not go down a storm with Mikey D.

Dell has had the wits over the last many years to invite AMD to its offices, and to ensure that next time La Intella tips up, she notices that there's been visitors from the second smallest X86 chip company.

That allows the Dell executives to say to La, hey, cut us a deal on your server chips, I hear that AMD has some doozies in its line up.

There's another thing. Dell has its own proprietary systems, including motherboards and power supplies.

Dell does not make standard PCs, just like Compaq didn't use to, either.

Inquiring readers, by the way, wish to know why so many senior execs at Dell have left over the last six months. µ
