AMD announces Beowulf 64-bit support for Opteron

Mid summer clustering madness
Tuesday, 21 January 2003, 16:30
SCYLD CORPORATION is developing a 64-bit version of Beowulf, a cluster OS, for Opteron chips, AMD said today.

The "cluster OS" -- which is how AMD describes it, will be available in the middle of this year and will be optimised for AMD's chip to bring a better Linux kernel, as well as libraries and utilities for clustered X86 computers.

Both AMD and Scyld claim that will give a boost to computer performance with more addressable memory.

The version of Scyld Beowulf will support both 32-bit and 64-bit application development on the Opteron servers, claimed AMD. ยต
