AMD Overdrive set to overclock Phenom, Radeon, 790FX

Digital Voltage Regulation enableschange on the fly
Tuesday, 6 November 2007, 17:02

ATI OVERDRIVE WAS a utility for overclocking Radeon cards, and this mode is included with every Catalyst driver out there.

As we revealed last week, AMD Canada (formerly known as Array Technologies Incorporated) has prepared AMD Overdrive, an overclocking utility that will enable core independent overclocking, 790FX overclocking, and Radeon overclocking.

AMD guys are especially proud of using digital Digital Voltage Regulation to control voltage and amps in miliseconds. However, this mode will probably remain locked to regular consumers.

AMD does not have locked-locked multiplier on any of its CPUs, as some stories suggest. The multiplier on both AMD and Intel chipsets can always be clocked downwards, since AMD's marchitecture dictates that the clock speed is derived by lowering the multiplier and keeping the clock of HyperTransport on the high, unlike original Intel's concept of having the same multiplier and cutting down the FSB clock.

As far as situation is right now, both companies have multiplier unlocked downwards, and moving it upwards is reserved for "Black Edition" or "Extreme Edition" models. So, playing around with HT1 (in case of 790FX motherboards and Athlon 64 processors) or HT3 clocks (Phenom X4/X3/X2) with lowering multiplier or keeping it the same will result in nice overclocking scores. µ

DATS' NUTE OBERKLOCKEN'.

There is range of multiplier & speed seting each Mainboard is good for. It can be corupted by worn equipment in other areas & BAD Software Conflicts.

To just say lower multiplier lets me dial in higher speed per in bios is meaningless IN BOTH ARE STANDARD SETTING,as its all within normal range. Open Multiplier puts more stress on hardware to perform at: beyond standard certain clock or Multiplier.YET IT HAS EXPECTED & REAL LIMITS.NOT ALWAYS MORE, YET IN SPECIAL OVERCLOCKING MAIN, YEAH, LOT MORE THAN STANDARD. ITS FUN TOY.

You can always set it for less, yet there is maximun in every situation & thats Final. THINK COLD IF YOUR OPEN X.

THINK NEW IF YOU WANT TO SEE SPEED at border of oberville.
EVEN CRUNCHY BAD WORN MAINS HAVE QUALITIES THAT CAN MAKE BETTER OR WORSE OF SETTING SIMILAR TO OC .

If main is made to go above reccomended setting its overclocking, due to quality parts in quality build, yet its really underated board for warrentee purposes
