Tyan has a new look

Computex 2008 And a new board to go with it
Tue Jun 10 2008, 19:25

TYAN ONLY HAD two new items on display at Computex, but they were solid. One is a mobo, the other is a new chassis look.

The first is the Thunder n6550EX, a quad socket Opteron board with eight DIMM sockets per board. This plus Metaram means you can cram 512GB of ram onto a single board.

There is hope for those who had Vista inflicted on them, soon boards like this will allow you to run the OS smoothly, or you could avoid the broken OS and run massive EDA apps on it with a real OS.

Transport TN68

The other one is a new look for Tyan, the new Transport faceplate. Not only can you get eight drives into it, it has a spiffy new design. If you hang around data centers for fun, you will be seeing a lot of these. Placing an n6550EX into the chassis gets you the 2U Transport TN68 and a scary amount of compute power in a 2U box. ยต

I lolled :P</quote>

Me too, but only because I remember reading somewhere that Vista Ultimate x64 has been limited to 8GB RAM... just bung a UNIX-based (i.e. proper) OS onto it and have successes. (I'm not flaming Lachlan W.)

<rant>Oh, and while I think of it, will people stop posting nonsensical b0ll0cks and thinking they're excusing themselves by putting "Drashek" at the bottom! It was annoying to start with and is now bloody irritating. If you can't think of anything meaningful to post, don't.

I can't be the only person this annoys!</rant>

Vista Licensing?

Can Vista run on 4 sockets or 16 cores, has Microsoft moved the licensing away from all previous OS licensing schemes?

Wish you had told us whose chipset it uses.

Tyan Often Leads Way.

Those 20K+ 3d SLI/CrossfireX scores just didn't Pop Up from NoWhere. Way Back in 2005, Tyan started Long March to Justify SLI with 2 up main. It blew pants off market. You Paid 3 legs & brain to get it, of course. Yet Nothing was better, at time.

Now Major mapping in multi 16X slot market is willowing down, thank Tyan. I assume its another example of leading edge with Vista ?Ultimate getting we bit more Home Bound.
