Creative snaps up Scipher Sensaura business

IP and R&D and 3D sound
Thu Dec 04 2003, 10:47
SCIPHER SUB SENSAURA WAS SOLD to Creative Technology yesterday for a cool $6.4 million in cash.

Of that amount, $5.6 million was cash, while Sensaura hung onto the outstanding debtors, meaning the value of the company was $6.4 million, it said.

The firm makes 3D sound technology, and the sale includes not only the business and assets, but all the intellectual property and the existing deals that Scipher Sensaura has.

There's no threat of redundancies it appears, but Scipher Sensaura's portfolio includes IP for 3D sound technology.

In 1979, a Scipher employee won the Nobel Prize for inventing the medical CT scanner, while it has 70 years experience in advanced R&D, including stereo and TV broadcasting.

3D sound eh? We thought Creative already had that technology. µ
