Toxic Vapors from Sapphire

CeBIT 2008 Vapour cooling for the masses
Tuesday, 11 March 2008, 08:30

SAPPHIRE HAD THE usual array of bewildering cooling solutions on display at CeBIT, water, vapor and air. As always, they had at least one that no one else on the floor offered.

The best item they had at the show was the Toxic 3780 with a vapor cooler. It is unique for two reasons, the vapor cooler and the single slot design. The vapour cooler came out first on their Atomic line, but it is now a Toxic card, so it is officially a mass market solution.

If you want to make a 4x CrossfireX rig, this is the card for you, even though it means you have to use the broken OS. It is OC'd to 800 out of the box, and should go up quite a bit from there. The one problem with the card is simple, when you are mentioning it to friends, you might happen to call it the Toxic Vapour, never a good product description.

The next one is a little thicker, the Ultimate 3870. You may notice the massive heatpipes all over it, but what you don't see is the big cooler on the back. It is the first, and as far as I know, only passive cooled 3870 on the market.

Last we have a pretty interesting idea, a water cooled 3870X2. Water blocks on this class of cards are nothing new, they are all over the place. This one is a self-contained unit, it comes as one sealed piece. What is the point? Idiot proofing I suppose, Hopefully they did the job right, there are a lot of idiots out there. ยต
