AMD-IBM joint K9 venture takes shape

External bus and north bridge
Sunday, 1 June 2003, 11:58
AS WE MENTIONED last week, and as our own Charlie D dug out at the Opteron CPU launch, AMD's K9 project is well under way.

There's also an Opteron 2 project under way too, and the evidence for the K9 project comes courtesy of AMD Zone, which has spotted a job for a K9 external bus and north bridge engineer.

The job, advertised on the BrassRing network, is for an MTS Design Engineer, and whoever gets the job is going to need a heap of experience.

You can find the details of the job here.

As the link below demonstrates, AMD has been hiring for the K9 for some time now.

But one of the interesting features of jobs such as this one, is that IBM and AMD will work in East Fishkill as part of the joint venture they now have.

This second link says that while the individual will be a full time AMD employee, she or he will work on the AMD-IBM joint venture in IBM's semi R&D centre in East Fishkill, showing quite a significant pooling of employees. µ
