Sony ships some Blu-Ray disks

It's the charge of the light Blu-Ray brigade
Fri May 05 2006, 15:10
ELECTRONICS FIRM Sony said it is "leading the charge" towards nextgen high definition media and has started shipping 25GB Blu-Ray disks.

This "charge" must be one of the slowest there is, but it said it will release a dual layer 50GB disk in June as part of the "charge".

Sony said it will soon release Blu-Ray devices for Vaio computers, an internal drive, and a Blu-Ray player.

So what's the "charge"? A 25GB write once drive will cost $20, and a rewritable unit $25. The 50GB equivalents will cost $48 and $60 when they join the charge. µ
