The heavy sales figure, estimated by NPD, brings Nintendo's first-quarter Wii total to 1.03 million, miles ahead of the competition. Unsurprisingly, Microsoft's Xbox 360 came in second place with 199,000 units sold in March, while Sony only managed to flog 130,000 consoles.
Analysts, however, are skeptical of Nintendo's long term success with the console, reports Yahoo. Yankee Group analyst Mike Goodman reckons that Nintendo doesn't "have legs for the long haul," and that the potential market for the Wii is lower than the PS3's.
It's not all bad for Sony: the PS2 is still leading the way in overall console sales, having sold 280,000 units in March. The year's best selling title so far is a PS2 game, too - Sony's God of War 2, which managed to sell 833,000 copies in March. Wii Play by Nintendo was second, selling 644,000 units. µ
