Anti-software patent people gird their loins again

Truth50 campaign kicks off
Monday, 30 January 2006, 11:00
ACTIVISTS worried that software patents might spread across Europa despite their successful campaign last year, have kicked out a new campaign aimed at preventing that from happening.

The European Union, according to campaigner Florian Mueller, started a fresh patent policy debate in mid January.

And now another campaigner, Norbert Bollow, has initiated a web site called www.truth50.com. This site includes a bunch of open letters which supporters can sign and which will be sent to political leaders and software luminaries like Microsoft's Steve Ballmer.

The aim of the campaign is also to demand a verification of what is claimed to be a Microsoft sponsored public poll to elect the "EV50 European of the Year".

Muller was awarded one of the gongs in that poll last year, but declined to accept it. ยต
