CHIP FIRM Intel has told its distributors that its QX6800 microprocessor won't go into volume production until the third quarter of this year.

It said that its thermal specs will also not be what it anticipated. The QX6800 is a 2.93GHz, 1066MHz processor which costs $1,170. It comes with 8MB of cache.

Intel has also told its distributors of significant price cuts on boxed processors come the 22nd of July, confirming earlier reports. Those price cuts are expected to put pressure on AMD in the important system builder Q3 season. µ
