Noctua moves to rescue Intel's V8

Performance and noise do not need to go together
Wednesday, 19 September 2007, 18:57
ONE OF THE BIGGEST annoyances and weaknesses with both existing V8 and upcoming Skulltrail beasts from Chipzilla is - noise. With all congratulations to performance achieved by systems, hearing two fans screaming their hearts out is not a nice proposal for users that want to shelve out thousands of dollars for best performing personal computer out there.

Intel's own reference coolers for Xeons were always known as "screamers", and this segment was always avoided by enthusiasts companies such as Zalman, Cooler Master and other oldtimers of cooling industry.

But Noctua, fast-growing Austrian company is now changing the rules of the game. Lads just released Xeon Mounting-Kit, compatible with its high-performing, but silent heatsinks. Four Dual heatpipe models such as NH-U12F and NH-U9F are more than well suited for Clovertowns or Yorkfields running at over 3 GHz.

If you own a Intel V8 or plan to own it and do not want to take the plunge into the world of water-cooling, this just might be the ticket. µ
