AMD primps hot-or-notfix

Performance and cocktails and glitches, too
Monday, 1 October 2007, 09:10

ATI HAS WHIPPED UP another hot-fix for its Catalyst drivers, in a pre-7.10 patching frenzy.

This is the second hot-fix in as many months, after a period of, ooh, years without any. Is ATI's driver team spending more time on the rye than on the die?

The patch is here, and is recommended for XP as well as 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Vista.

There are a bunch of issues fixed: Quake Wars gets a resolve for flickering issues that have plagued gamers, Bioshock gets better stability, there's improved performance for World in Conflict and graphical glitches in Team Fortress 2 are also nixed.

To be fair to the team in the land of the Canucks, there are an awful lot of new PC games and demos out, and testing for all of them must be a complete nightmare - so kudos to the chaps for fixing up gamers rather than making them wait for 7.10 later on this month.

However, if you are the sort of hardware nut that likes to get down and dirty with leaked releases, you can find the RC4 release of Catalyst 7.10 over here.

It's only for XP, but you might enjoy a whizz through it - although don't come crying if it bricks your system faster than Steve Jobs on ritalin. µ

Hot fix my ass...

Let me just say that I was happily playing ETQW demo (saw that flickering only once) and Bioshock (flawless) demo with 7.5 Catalyst on my 1600Pro.

Now after the fix ETQW works and loads slower, and Bioshock demo reports an error without even starting. Reinstall didn't help either...
