Microsoft meets EU deadlines

Fine threat dropped
Thu Nov 23 2006, 16:03
SOFTWARE GIANT Microsoft has managed to stave off another round of antitrust fines from the European Commission.

Brussels gave Vole until today to reveal its secret recipe for software protocols to enable its rivals to tap into its operating system.

Antitrust regulators concerned that Vole was dragging its feet more than a man who had his shoes nailed to the floor and threatened it with daily fines if it didn't pull finger.

According to AP, Microsoft has managed to get its paperwork to them on time and all is well in Euroland.

An official comment from Brussels was that Microsoft had submitted a revised version of the technical documentation with a view to meeting the requirements of the Commission's March 2004 Decision. However it did not exactly praise the Vole for its action.

This is not what you would believe if you saw Microsoft's press release on the same affair. A spokesVole gushed that he was pleased that the Commission had "recognised Microsoft's efforts to comply with its documentation obligations". He promised that Vole would be a good rodent and "continue to work closely with the Commission from now on".
