And so it goes
Thu Apr 19 2007, 09:41
DRM WANNA-BE Sony has gotten around to fixing a bug on its mainstream DVD disks which broke its own brand of DVD players.

Earlier this week we reported how Sony's latest DRM attempt buggered up its own brand of players while cheerfully operated on punters' PCs.

The copy-protection glitch stopped moviesCasino Royale, Pursuit of Happyness and Stranger Than Fiction from playing on some DVD players.

Sony said it had issued a patch of its DRM, the ARccOS copy-protection system, which is designed to stop people making copies of DVDs.

ArccOS has been around for two years, but a recent update, designed to stay ahead of hackers, seemed to also put the disks ahead of Sony's latestown brand of DVD players. Although some Toshiba and Harman Kardon DVD players also had a few problems too.

Sony says that it has received a "very small" number of complaints that their players were freezing or shutting off in the menu section of recent releases from the studio.

It is providing replacement discs to customers that have had problems. While it no doubt works out its next DRM Move.

Customers can call Sony Pictures Home Entertainment customer service at 800.860.2878 for replacement discs. µ
