FX57 gets its day of glory

Hardwibbling review roundup Usual suspects

TECHREPORT glimpsed Nirvana when it ran a Dual Geforce 7800GTX in SLI on the FX57 platform. And like the video card, the FX57 is miraculously available for sale. If you want games and nothing but games, then this little baby is for you. Change the scenario, pull in some multi tasking, multi threading and even the Pentium D 820 will prove to be a better buy.

Xbitlabs gives top kudos to the FX57 for its gaming performance but also highlights the fact that it gets nailed. Not even the new Sandiego core can save it from its impending end in the hands of the X2 and its dual core variants. For those irreductible gamers, the non locked multiplier will enable them to clock the FX57 well beyond the 3GHz mark easily. Non gamers, take another way.

The same conclusion is reached at Firing Squad. If you're already willing to drop a grand, they add, why not spring for the model which is better at present and future apps? The X4800+ would certainly be a plug in replacement for the FX57 and the FX55 especially when Overclocking is factored in. There is a certain amount of overlapping whether AMD loves it or not. BTW, has anyone noticed anywhere any mention of support for 533MHz speeds for the memory controller.

Double Yawn at Extremetech. The FX57 is the fastest processor for games and overclockability is a boon. But it is ridiculously expensive for what it can do. However, do consider that the processor - where it will be used - will probably account for only 25% of the price, so everything is relative. Will AMD elitist approach pay off or will Intel end up strangling it. Benchmarks include PEE 840, P4 670, FX57 and 55 and X2 4800+.

Hexus introduces us to AMD new stablemate. They mention that the FX55 will be sold alongside the FX57 for the first time. Probably to allow the supplies to dry up. Clock Bump, SGOI and an improved core do make things better as it ends up being the fastest gamers processor ever... at a price.

3Dvelocity tests the FX57 and is quite enthusiastic about it. The benchmarks include the X2 4800+ and the 4000+ processor. AMD higher end segment is quite populated. AMD 64, AMD64 X2, Opterons and of course FX. There is a product for every tastes. They acknowlegde that the FX's own enemy lies within. The X2 is a formidable opponent indeed, even more than what Chipzilla can come up with.

Hothardware and Dave say of the FX55 that it is an extreme performer. It was the best performer with applications like Photoshop and in games. It requires less power and runs cooler than competiton from intel and from its predecessor the FX55. With the impending arrival of dual core processors to the FX family, though, this seems to be the swan song of the single core products. The FX61 will almost certainly be the first dual core FX. µ
