AMD better rethink that statement about Intel price slashing on products no one is interested in.
I and many others recently decided not to build AMD machines because of those pre-released Conroe Benchmarks and also the overclock ability of the cheap celeron M 430.
But what truly seals the deal on waiting is the price of those Conroe chips being priced very nicely. Almost too low that I and many others cant wait for them. The 65nm process allows Intel to mark down chips as well not entirely because of poor demand but it does make sense to try and liquidate inventory (90nm) when you have a new generation of 65nm parts coming soon.
On an additional note, dual core Intel chips which contain VT technology some of us geeks have a need for is extremely interesting as a low cost Virtual Server lab.
Then AMD adds a scapegoat comment that states problem quarter. Which simply sounds to me like a cry baby tactic reply to we have technology for the next quarter to compete with the prices of our competitor and the technology our competitor could possibly deliver in the next 6 months as well.
As much as AMD needs to maximize revenue they need some price drops soon especially before Conroe. They also need a low cost dual core CPU immediately. Otherwise my 85% AMD based machines will be seeing some Intel Inside real soon.

Google defends the indefensible
I think that sites (and tv stations too btw) that apply censorship should at the very least put that fact prominently on their page (or announce it on the screen in tv's case).
How come there are no (EU?) laws forcing them to do that? I frankly think it's outrageous when I see a movie on tv only to discover by chance when I saw it before that they cut parts out, and they do that on the BBC as well as german and dutch public tv I noticed.
And I think that if you censor the chinese or german or french or american etc. google results it would be fair and decent to point out to the users if they were being censored so they can at least form a realistic view of their government.

LCD display will display with power off
Smectic LCD's, how novel - 20-odd years ago, Standard Telephone Labs in Harlow was working on A4 sized panels. In typical British fashion it was never brought to market - then Nortel took over and the rest is (ghastly) history.

Quad GPU but single CPU - not a good combo
You're quite right IMO, and you forgot to mention quad cores, given that AMD plans on releasing its quad core architecture based on the K8L, an improved K8 core rather than a revolutionary new core.
I am quite positive that if you take all that Woodcrest goodness and make it Quad cores, K8L won't stand a chance. Future suddently doesn't look so bright for AMD...

Hela hath no fury - it's a laptop stand
Not mentioned is the benefit of better cooling. Many laptop designs make implicit assumptions about usage patterns - if you leave one running for a long time, especially the hard drive, they often overheat.

AMD's 3GHz Opteron signals return to Megahurts Madness
Quote from article: "It will be the last of the single core Opterons AMD will offer before everything goes dual core..."
So far dual cores haven't shown me a darned thing! I'd just as soon have a good single core as any dual core I've tested to date.
David

I think we all know AMD would like a return to megahertz. The opteron outclocks the Pentium M by a few hundred clocks :) (insert whatever other name you want to call the chip, even in dual core, 2.66GHz mode).

Well I would like to agree that Clock frequencies would be a good thing again but then we may get a P4 technology all over again.... you know high Ghz but high error margine. An other example, I work in a computer store part time and I'll tell you that I get people coming in asking for 7900 over 1900 just because 7900 is a bigger number.
Trying to explain the tech differences is is mind numbing to those who think bigger number means better. Hell just the other I had someone thing that a 6600LE 128MB is better than a X1900XTX because it was 4700 more numbers. I've also had people do the same thing with a nv6600 and a ati9250 now as you can see number mean shit and people are compliant sheep that think that conventional wisdome works in the computer field but it doesn't.
I do agree that the current numbering scheme is crap but I fear going to the Ghz numbering again is going to make me lose every last hair I have on my head.

Dell invented "everything on planet"
Absolute rubbish, Steve Jobs and Apple invented everything on the planet. In fact, I can confidently say without fear of contradiction that Jobs has never been introduced to a technology he didn't invent.

Dell invented everything? *I* invented everything because I am God (and I also created it and nothing evolves). Dell will burn in hell for this landgrab. Oh, Intel too should prepare for a warm welcome down under.
