Microcomputer in shoe robs casinos

Steps will have to be taken
Tuesday, 15 March 2005, 07:33
CASINO OWNERS are concerned that a European crime syndicate is using microcomputers installed in footwear to cheat them out of millions.

Two Belgian plods will hot foot it to Sydney later this month to study a shoe design which turned up down under.

The shoes were found on the feet of a Hungarian, Laszlo Sendor Kovacs, who allegedly won large bets at a Star City casino roulette wheel. European police want Kovacs in their jurisdiction.

The 59-year-old gambler was seen tapping his right foot under a roulette table. When the shoe was examined they found a tiny computer hidden in the heel, the Aussie paper reckoned.

When Kovacs tapped his toe a voice synthesised message was sent to a wireless micro-earpiece telling him roulette wheel's speed, it is alleged.

This helped calculate the next number that would appear. He is alleged to have tapped his way to millions. Eat your heart out Fred Astaire. More here. ยต
