U2 album leaked the old school way

Bono bootlegged
Mon Aug 18 2008, 14:17

NEWS CAME TO US over the weekend of two tracks from the new U2 album being leaked online to the usual P2P sites, with an interesting old school twist.

Usually these leaked tracks, normally with an 'adv' tag on torrent sites meaning advance as it’s out way before the actual release date, come from a high-tech source such as CD mastering plants. The original tracks come by a variety of different methods, ranging from radio stations or music journos getting promo copies to fans being vigilant.

The latter seems to be more applicable here with some stupidity on the behalf of one band member, namely – Bono himself.

Apparently he was playing the new album rather too loudly at his home when someone passing outside overheard and recorded it. Yep, it was as simple as that.

Gone are the days of intercepting couriers, haranguing PR people telling them you’re from the NME. Just hang around outside the home of someone with a big ego and press record on your digital recorder. µ

So easy

Have you ever thought before publishing your little article with all that certitudes that maybe, the U2 singer had done this in purpose to advertise the release of the new album ?

So easy really... Nice journalist work.

Do you think the move was justified?
