"Craplets" cause problems in the bowels of Vista

Developers grumble
Thursday, 11 January 2007, 14:40
REDMOND VOLES (Microscrotus Redmondius) fear that Vista will crash thanks to uncertified third-party software, which they have dubbed, unofficially, 'craplets'.

Craplet is a contraction of the words "crap" and "applet" and an anonymous senior Vole told CBC news hounds at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, that third-party software that hardware makers commonly install on new computers is causing problems in the bowels of the Redmond Volehill.

Microsoft would love the power to stop people from sticking these craplets onto their machines, unfortunately the US Justice Department might not take too kindly to that idea. The anonymous Vole said that Microsoft had restrictions placed on it following that little federal anti-trust lawsuit a few years back and now has to let any idiot stick whatever they like on their own computers.

What annoys the Vole is that it will not be its wonderful Vista "operating system" that is causing the trouble, but it will almost certainly get the blame.

Meanwhile, analysts are not pooh-poohing the idea of the craplet. Canadian computer manufacturer MDG said that its tests have shown almost 200 older software programs are incompatible with Vista which is a lot of craplet for a computer to take. µ
