THE DELL INSPIRON MINI 9 on the Vodafone noose, sorry, contract, is on test at Thrusting Reviews. You can get this teeny lappie for free if you sign over your soul for two years to Vodafone, otherwise it’ll cost you £279 and £299 for Linux and Windows, respectively. Considering it has an HSDPA module and integrated SIM slot, you’ll be likely to sign-off on the contract anyway. Great "connected" netbook, as Andy put it. Thrust your mouse on this link.
Fudo and the gang are re-reviewing the Nano CPU, after their first attempt with a defective mobo. This time it’s the Atom 330 vs the Nano L2100, and Atom gets to pull rank with its dual-core, hyper-threaded processing, although we’re pretty sure if given a dual-core chance, Nano would annihilate the Atom. Still, it’s a complete review with 3DMark numbers thrown in for fun. Interesting bit of info at the end, if you are to believe Via… Read it here.
Lenovo isn’t giving Apple any quarter when it comes to laptops. The Big Red has come up with a mobile workstation that will make a MacBook Pro poop in its panties. It’s the Stinkpad W700 Mobile Workstation at Hot Hardware. It includes, amongst other things, Quadro graphics, a T9600 and 4GB of DDR2-1006 (synced, innit?). Instead of running the whole battery of Windoze tests, tho’, we would’ve gone with sticking and EFI-X dongle and running everything under Mac OS X just for fun… Good review, right here.
Of all the odd names PC cases get, this one has to take some sort of prize: the Apevia X-QBOII-BL/500. Gesundheit. You’ll like it, though. It’s a micro-ATX case that includes a 500W PSU and 120mm fan, with a big ol’ window on the side for ogling the neons. You can add extra fans (2x80mm) too. The oddest bit of the case is it’s completely setup the opposite way. Windows and access is to the right, instead of left. It’s… geez, you better take a look for yourself.
Techware Labs is trying out the Antec Veris Multimedia Station Premier. This kit transforms your plain ugly and old PC case into an HTPC-capable box by adding remote control/receiver and a front console with the iMedian Media Centre software. That’s all there is to it. Use up two 5.25-inch bays and you’re good to go. Matthew thought it was (literally) awesome stuff. µ
