YOU KNOW WE LIKE quiet PCs. We work with them every single day and if they are noisy they can give you some nasty headaches. We have been following the birth of Pentium M CPU and its growing up phase and we've always suggested how good it would be to see this CPU inside desktop.

We saw some motherboards available, one from DFI and another from Aopen, and now we can report that Asus has an easier upgrade path for its 478 motherboard users and it's available now.

Asus launched its socket 479, for replacing a Pentium M in a socket 478, that's the old Pentium 4 socket adaptor kit. It's available now for $49.95 plus shipping cost and you can get one here. Asus calls it the CT-479.

You can use this adaptor with Asus P4P800 SE, Asus P4P800-VM or Asus P4C800-E Deluxe motherboards. If you have one of thee boards and would like to try a Pentium M, this might be an easy upgrade path. I don't think you can use this adaptor with other boards. µ
