Q-day postponed yet again

ITC extends own deadline
Fri May 25 2007, 23:48
QUALCOMM CAN breathe easy for another couple of weeks after the USA's International Trade Commission (ITC) said it was again postponing a decision over the Qualcomm vs Broadcom dispute.

This is the second time that the ITC has failed to come up with a remedy as to what penalty it might impose on Qualcomm after it found the company had indeed infringed a Broadcom patent.

It's an interesting dilemma since both companies are the darlings of the Silicon Valley and their customers are major hitters like Verizon and Sprint Nextel.

The delay does make it less likely that the ITC will actually impose a blanket ban on the import of Qualcomm-based handsets, observers believe. µ
