Apple nomination domination

British Technology Awards
Wednesday, 30 July 2008, 15:47

THOUSANDS OF VOTES are flooding in for the first ever British Technology Awards according to the event's organisers.

The nomination process has now finished and voting has begun to decide which products and services will win in the 13 categories.

It looks at the moment like the Great British public – who decided the nominees as well as the eventual winners – are keeping the doctor at bay as they nominated those nice folks at Apple for no less than 11 out of the 13 categories.

Our friends at Microsoft aren’t far behind with a total of nine shortlistings.

The nominations process began earlier this year, with a selection of technologies to choose from on the BTA website. The great unwashed then voted for the technology they wanted from each category – or added ones which they felt had been left out.

Editor of Computer Active, Paul Allen confirmed that consumers were the primary focus at this event saying, “These awards aren’t the preserve of audiovisual nerds – they’re real people who use and enjoy technology on a day-to-day basis, and we can’t wait to see how they vote”.

And the the categories are:

• Gadget of the Year
• Best Music Technology
• Business Technology of the Year
• Best Home Entertainment Technology
• Best Kids' Technology
• Most Stylish Technology
• Best Gaming Technology
• Best Mobile Technology
• Most Indispensable Technology
• Technological Innovation of the Year
• Best Online Technology
• Retailer of the Year
• Greenest Technology

Voting on the shortlist of eight technologies per award is taking place now and winners will be announced on October 3 of this year. µ
