GOT A SOCKET 423 mobo that won't take those pesky Northwood Pentium 4s - remember we warned you not to buy them?

Relief is at hand, says Powerleap, which told us today it has introduced the PL-P4/N.

This cunning gadget, claims the firm, will allow you to upgrade CPUs on socket 423 boards to Northwood Pentium 4s to 2.4GHz for 400MHz front side bus (FSB) systems, or higher, for 533MHz boards.

The firm said that systems currently supported include the Dell Dimension 8100, the Dell OptiPlex GX400, Alienware Area-51, Gateway Performance Series, Compaq Presario 7000 Series, HP Vectra VL800, IBM NetVista A60, IBM IntelliStation M Pro and Intel D850GB mobos.

According to the firm, it has designed a customised heatsink/fan, meaning you don't need to be fashed with the extra height of the adaptor in the 423 pin socket.

The adaptor supports P4 Northwood, Willamette and Pentium 4 "Celeron" microprocessors.

It costs $50. µ
