RIM not shaken by Iphone

Blackberry not ripe for plucking
Fri Jun 29 2007, 13:06
RIM has sent out a message to Apple that the BlackBerry won't be a spoiled crop just because the Iphone is launching.

In fact, the BlackBerry could bruise Apple, leaving a bitter taste in the mouth of buyers… aw, do the rest yourself, not forgetting to throw in a few references to thorns, blossoming or blooming sales, cut fingers, tonics for investors and all the rest of the tabloid shtick.

What we really mean to say is that, despite the Iphone launch, BlackBerry sales have never been healthier. The firm said it had passed $1bn in revenues for its first quarter, up over 76 percent on the year-ago figure and 16 percent on the previous quarter. The firm has now sold almost 20 miliion handsets in its history. However, the next quarter should be even more interesting when RIM starts counting sales of the consumer-targeted Curve against Apple's you know what.

The fall guy in the picture so far is Palm which saw a 44 per cent drop in profits and a slight dip in revenue. Palm recently hired Ipod designers to help its long term but a lot of its immediate future is going to depend on phones due to be launched later this year. µ
