Sex workers lay into Grand Theft Auto

Driven to censorship
Wed Feb 15 2006, 08:25
A UNION for US sex workers has attacked the video game Grand Theft Auto for representing sex workers as legitimate targets of violence, rape and murder.

While the American Sex Workers Outreach Project says that it is opposed to any and all forms of censorship, it calls for gamers to boycott Grand Theft Auto.

At its site the group sites studies that claim that there is a cause-effect relationship between television violence and aggression among the children and youth who watch it.

"[There is] a strong correlation between exposure to violent video games and various forms of antisocial behavior," the site says.

However the same sorts of studies, and calls to protect children, are often cited as a reason to ban pornography, something SWOP valiantly defends.

More cake, with the option to eat it too, here. µ
