Vole spins new HD-DVD drive

And Xbox 360 movie rentals
Friday, 21 September 2007, 11:36
MIGHTYSOFT has let slip that the Xbox 360 is about to get an updated version of its popular HD-DVD add-on drive.

Speaking at an event in London, the chief Volista in charge of HD-DVD said that the new hardware would support more advanced HD-DVD features, such as picture in picture and interactivity.

Mark Bennett, for it is he, took a swipe at Blu-Ray, saying that interactivity was as far as nine months away from nailing the interactivity functionality on the platform.

He also said that the Vole would launch HD movie downloads over Xbox Live, as it currently does in the States - although no word on the TV downloading functionality. The rental downloads will cost 480 'Microsoft points', which is about £4 in real money, and feature a 720p resolution. µ
