Hammer heatsink shows itself

The hardware roundup

THE PROCESSOR MAY NOT BE AVAILABLE YET but that hasn't stopped Systemcooling from jumping at the chance to get hold of a Hammer heatsink and fan. There are some puzzles and some nice design to be seen.

Your CPU can run at very high temperatures, especially if you're an overclocker. That's what your processor fan and heatsink are for, right? But what about when you switch your machine off? The fan stops straight away. ForumOC has a look at a device which prevents possible heat damage after you've switched off.

Jason over at Mikhailtech has cut a hole in the side of his PC and fitted a 5" LCD screen . Now he can watch movies and still have his apps full screen.

Bonus miniature screen stuff as ICEHardware shows you how to build an external screen for your PC to show you what MP3 you've got playing. It seems like the kind of thing that any self-respecting, music-loving electronics buff should have a go at.

Die-hard 3D Studio Max users might want to take a look at X-bit Lab's investigation into just which graphics card suits the software best. Not an easy choice.

More high-end graphics coverage, this time in German, from 3Dchips where the investigation is into ATI's Radeon 9700 Pro turned into a SoftFireGL X1. That's tricking the card into thinking it is a FireGL X1. Seems like the drivers have a way to go though.

Dan's Data has added some new coolers to the big list of processor cooling solutions. We could do a poor joke about fans heading over there but we're not going to. Oh. µ

Do you think the move was justified?
