Apple becomes a phone operator

Reassuringly expensive calls, but nice to look at
Tuesday, 12 July 2005, 09:58
RUMOURS HAVE BEEN around lately that the Cappuccino-based maker of expensive-but-nice looking sound gear is going into the mobile phone business.

The source of the rumour was Forbes, which claims that Apple is going to build its own cellular network. Perhaps the motivation has been that the eyePod-maker has also been seen with Motorola talking about a hybrid eyePod/cell phone.

Motorola is planning to unveil the first fruits of it's partnership with Apple late next month at the V Festival. The festival runs from the 20th to the 21st August 2005.

All that's lacking is a network to run it on and maybe Apple will provide. Yeah right.
