UT3 beta demo leaked

Grab it here and there...
Friday, 12 October 2007, 18:40

EPIC RECENTLY HELD an event in its HQ in North Carolina, during which a UT3 demo was given to invited members of the press.

As might be expected in the Internet age, a demo was leaked and you can now download it from usual leaky suspects - TechPowerUp! and NGOHQ.

There are not many details about this demo, but seeing a download size of only 741 MB, somewhat of a rarity in today's world of multi-GB downloads per demo.

It seems that Epic really pulled a nice compression ratio on this one. We're not sure how guys at Epic reacted to this leak, but if you want to download it, use our complementary L'INQS. µ

Long time coming

I still remember seeing the PS2.0 demo for UT3 (unreal engine 3) back at E3 2004. Hard to believe that was 4 years ago, and this technology is just now finally coming to fruition. It was pretty spectacular at the time, but now likely to be overshadowed by DX10 games like crysis

Leaked then released?

Looks like it was leaked and then released by fileplanet et al. Maybe this is the proof that most other games are just bloated, if Epic have managed to make this small in size.

real engineering

Any extended development time is forgiven with how well this game runs, even on very old computers. My PC is long in the tooth enough that it chokes running anything younger than 2 years old, but this scales well enough to run as smoothly as HL2.

It doesn't look particularly pretty at these settings, but that I have the option of running it at all (let alone well) is evidence of the dedicated and talented guys at Epic.

Crysis? Blah.

Sure, Crysis may have slightly better graphics (though I'll wait and see on that) but UT has *PERSONALITY*. If it's anything like UT2k3, it'll trump everything else on the block on that count alone.

It's worth it for PANCAKE, VEHICULAR HOMICIDE, and DOMINATING alone.

Graphics are nice, but very few games have the soul and wit of the UT series. If the game has kept those, it'll get my vote even if it looks like it came out of 2004 (oh no!).

Déjà vu

Fact: the demo was also leaked for Unreal Tournament 2003.

re:Long time coming

I don't know if it will be over shadowed by crysis for the simple fact that crysis is being hyped so much its bound to disappoint. I really don't think I can pick Crysis up if it doesn't get a 9.2 or better.

As far as UT3 is concerned. I think it looks pretty impressive, not saying it cant suck, but it does look like its going to be a blast to play.

Free advertisement?

I don't think they care if it got leaked. whenever someone says the words "leaked copy" everyone runs to check what it's all about(I'm doing the same right now). and considering it's only a 700mb demo, it's probably not gonna have much in it, so really, it's not much more then free advertisement for them.

Installed and Played

Wow....The game has better game play then UT2003/2004, but still not as good as the orginal.
First off the Bots are done well, really smart.
Vechiles in CTF..wierd concept. Have to get out of your viechle in order to get the flag. Thus meaning you are surround by the enemys. Very challanging to get the flag out of the base. Also some rides are too powerful, like the mothra. small single person ride that shoots a laser, blow up a heavy tank in a few seconds. Also you can not take over enemies rides unless they get out of them. Well you can use Link gun(shoot the ray at it) it will unlock the rides. You will know when your link/ride glows red and you see a key symbol come up.

Weapon! Sniper rifle is to slow, hard to use when not sniping. Flack cannon doesn't seem to spread out alot or bounce/shell doesn't go far. The redeemer is garbag now, looks like flying out of glass water bottle. Link gun/shock rifle super strong, missle launcher splash is very weak need hit directly with missles/Hard to toss the missle grendaes. Cool new weapon call longbow (Homing missle launcher)
This seems go on for all weapons, there range seems be infinite! You can shoot the link gun and hit stuff half way across the board. Everything seems to travel very far distances. I can see a problem people spamming the weapon down field on narrow passage maps.
Graphics: I Have a AMD 2100+ Althon 1GB ram/5900XT 128MB graphics card. I was smooth enough to play CTF vechiels with 9 other bots, and graphics seem ok. I think they auto-recognize/adjust there seem be no adjustments other then resolution and post processing for graphics.

It pretty good, they need put little time into adjust strenghts/ranges of weapons and vechiles.

PS Demo

There was never a PS 2 demo of this game, it was a PS 3 demo.

700MB?

Wah?

700mb?

What are they, levels of flat terrain and fog particles with 699mb of .mpg introductions?

Been playing all week-end now

And must say, it has nothing to fear from DX10. It looks gorgeous, and it plays very well. Of course, I do have an Intel Core 2 Quad, 2GB of DDR2 and a 8800GTS, but really, it plays well.
I play in 1600x1200, and Fraps tells me I get about 62fps. Good enough for me.
Plus, it's got that Unreal playability. More fun than UT2003, that I can vouch for.
Can't wait to get the full version.
