Silicon Image releases super fast transmitter chips

Better resolutions for digital tellies
Tue Oct 24 2006, 08:34
SELLER of semiconductors to the storage and telly market, Silicon Image has just released two media interface transmitter chips which it claims can go like the clappers.

Vast Lane High Definition Multimedia Interface HDMI transmitter chips - yes, they're really called that - mean PC manufacturers can shove digital output to PC monitors and HDTVs from a single transmitter.

The firm reckons the Vast Lane SiI1392-3 and VastLane SiI1932-3 - did we say they're really called that yet - can handle up to 340MHz or 10.2 gigabits per second. This means they can support monitor resolutions up to 2560 x 1600 pixels or HDTV resolutions up to 1440p.

The transmitters work with panels that have Digital Visual Interface inputs and HDTVs with HDMI inputs, along with PC monitors expected to incorporate HDMI, if these ever come to pass. µ
