Kindergarten Killers game pulled

Online games come under fire again
Thursday, 2 October 2008, 18:17

A FINNISH ONLINE game website has removed a game called Kindergarten Killers and issued an apology, over a week after 10 people were murdered at a Finnish school by a crazed gunman.

The flash game, still available elsewhere on the net, depicts a janitor – the game character - going postal and blowing the heads off kindergartners with an automatic rifle to advance through the various levels. Even Arnold Schwarzenegger, famous for his role in Kindergarten Cop, makes an appearance.

Finnish game site lastenpelit.fi said in a statement on its homepage, "We have removed pages of content which do not necessarily agree with the younger members of the family". The statement went on to say that the site would, from now on, work towards ensuring that the content it displayed be suitable for all age groups.

But, not succumbing to the ‘video games make people want to grow up into psychos and massacre people’ hype, Lastenpelit.fi refused to shoulder all the blame.

“We strongly advise parents to teach their children to differentiate between right and wrong, and to tell the differences between fairy tales and real stories, fiction and fantasy” the statement read, adding that parents were the ones primarily responsible for what children did online and should monitor their computer use.

Lastenpelit.fi also apologised for not removing the offensive content sooner, claiming the site "had not been inspected for some time", and promised to track its content more closely in the future.

Last week’s attack by 22-year-old Matti Saari, who had previously posted a YouTube video of himself shooting a handgun and proclaiming “you will die next!”, was the worst school shooting Finland has suffered to date.

Last year Finnish schoolkid Pekka-Eric Auvinen shot and killed six other students, the headmaster and a school nurse before killing himself.

So it does appear that something is definitely rotten in the state of Finland, but its doubtful it’s all down to the video games. µ

Why is it "doubtful"?

Why is it doubtful that it's all down to video games?
What do you know about it, anything?

Ridiculous

It's sad, school shootings, but it does not mean that it should be taken off websites.
Why are sensitive people and children visiting the site in the first place?

Practise some control over your kids if you don't want them to see the gruesome things in life.

If you don't want to see animals being slaughtered, don't go to an abbatoir... you don't ban them or remove them.

If you don't want to break your legs, don't jump off bridges... you don't ban them or remove them.

Got it?

Fishy in Finland?

That anyone would create such a game is the sign of a SICK mind. Makes me wonder about them Finns. Shame, because I've been there, and thought they were rather nice people, not given to such violent thoughts.

Stupid game

Just tried for a minute.
Animation is ridiculous - even by Flash standards. It's always stand in one place and blast the targets that slide in or pop up before clicking to get to the next frame. Wow, I wonder how many minutes it took to piece this pile of dung together.
As for the plot line, for Pete's sake how did so many kindergartners get guns in the first place ?
The pretense is ridiculous, the game is not fun or entertaining, and there's not even any hint of the value of Postal which, for all its gore, had a sickeningly funny side.
It's good they removed it, with or without the real-life massacre.
You want mindless, PC-approved gorefest, go play Zombie Survival.

Soo much for freedom of speech bull...

There you go, so common sense can be applied.

Now just go back to your faith - read your bible and apply it to your daily lives... no matter how advance you are with your technology, and going to mars and so on, you'll loose your society.

There's no limit to people being stupid, kids are like animal, you as parents must teach good from bad etc. Perhaps then you might be able to stop the decline in marrage, the increase in STIs and the growing pensioners.

Yes your economy was going good, you were living a life of rich while you slave the poor folks in developing countries, at the expense of loosing family life, the church and ASBOS... come on, even the economy has had it... what a desister!

When the earthquake or tsunumi or other major floods or such hits, what do you do?

Pray to your lord Jesus... so why not at all times, who knows might even change your society for good and less homosexuals (bible is aginst it, by the way).

Here's a idea, make more hollywood films about your faith so you can educate your zombie kids and move them off facebook and other waste of times.... like passion of christ - thought it was good.... even if not accurate. And what ever you do tone down the porno meterial in the bible - people can download that (porn) for free via torrent/p2p so pointless.

Bye.
Jon.
