Infineon makes loss as Qimonda DRAM bites

Carve out hurt quite EBIT
Friday, 27 July 2007, 12:37
GERMAN CHIP FIRM Infineon said it turned in a net loss of €197 million on revenues of €1.75 billion for its third financial quarter - that includes Qimonda. Qimonda is the spun off division of IFX that makes DRAM.

DRAM hasn't been doing too well lately.

Infineon said that its other business - excluding Qimonda - will do pretty well in its fourth quarter.

Herr Dr Wolfgang Ziebart, CEO of Infineon, said: "With positive EBIT and an improved EBIT margin in the third quarter, Infineon excluding Qimonda made further progress towards sustainable profitability. The recently announced acquisition in the area of DSL customer premises equipment marks the first selective strengthening of our core business since the carve out of Qimonda."

EBIT stands for earnings before interest and taxes. ยต
