Kingston, OCZ start wacky DDR2 races

Sponsorship DIMMs
Thu Jul 01 2004, 10:44
THERE ARE THREE bits of memory news today, one from Kingston and two from OCZ. Two of the bits are about sponsorship, and one is about products. Not wanting to delay any further, let's start with Kingston.

Kingston said it is sponsoring the Counterstrike team, Team NoA. This international squad has won over $410K, with a $21K prize at the winter CPL games. Not bad for gaming, it just goes to show your mother was wrong after all.

OCZ also sponsored something a bit faster than either memory or the reflexes of the NoA guys. It is sponsoring David Mirk and his 750BHp Outlaw car for the big July 4th race at Pikes Peak International Raceway. If you like cars at all, these races are a blast, go cheer him on. You might also notice another sponsor sticker on the side of the car. Hopefully the name 'Lost Circuits' doesn't mean anything in this context.

Last up is the product announcement. The high performace DDR2 market is about to start up, and a few short weeks after the Intel S775 launch, we bring you OCZ's latest, PC2-4300 Enhanced Bandwidth DDR2 Platinum Edition RAM.

In case you are not up to date on performance RAM nomenclature, this memory is DDR2-533 with timings of 4-3-3, and right now it appears to be the fastest, and the only, performance DDR2 on the market. Don't expect it to stay this way for long. Let the races begin.µ
