PROXIM'S RADIOS will be behind one of the biggest deployed Wimax networks. The contract โ€“ won with RK Telecom and Geyser โ€“ will cover a population of over 32 million people in a 2,500 square kilometre region in Russia.

Significantly the network is being built by Megafon โ€“ one of Russia's original GSM cellular network operators. It picked Wimax as one of the easiest ways to bring both broadband internet and VoIP telephony to the region.

The contract for Proxim's Tsunami MP.11 5054 radios followed a successful trial of an IEEE 802.16 (Wimax) network in the region.

Proxim didn't state how much the contact is actually worth. ยต
