AMD organises X86-64 developer symposium

Linux developers for Hammer
Sun Sep 01 2002, 11:53
PROGRAMMERS WORKING with future Hammer designs are being invited to attend an AMD Linux forum held on September 24th in Sunnyvale.

The firm is offering special discounts for developers who take up its offer in the next 10 days, it has emerged.

The company has also started a special Web page for developers and programmers to express their interest.

Intel has its Developer Forum starting a week tomorrow in San Jose. AMD usually sets up camp somewhere near to see if it can perform a bit of spoiling action. For example, last February, press were invited round the corner to see running Hammer systems. Perhaps Intel might like to do the same to the AMD event?

Session speakers and subjects include Tim Wilkens in "Optimizing for Hammer Family Processors", David O'Brien, "Porting to Linux64 on X86-64", and Sheldon Travis, VP of Migratec on "Migrating C/C++ Applications to 64 bit on AMD Opteron processors".

Speakers include AMD's Hector Ruiz, Fred Weber from AMD, and Wayne Meretsky, a software development manager at AMD who worked for eight years at Apple, where he was the technical lead of the Macintosh OS group (hint?).

Here's the invite programmers have just been sent:

64-bit computing is almost here and you can learn the easiest way to get there at AMD's Developer Symposium, September 24-25, in Sunnyvale, CA.

The Developer Symposium is geared to the Linux developer who wants to take advantage of today's unprecedented opportunity to drive open standards into the enterprise. You'll get hands-on experience with AMD's new Hammer platform and you'll find out from AMD's experts how to make its flexible migration path work for you.

AMD and Linux -- the ultimate value proposition!

Register online for AMD's Developer Symposium by September 10th and you will be entered into a drawing with five opportunities to win an AMD Athlon (tm) MP 2100+ processor. The five Athlon MPs will be given away at the AMD evening party sponsored by UnitedLinux.
