Facebook removes Scrabulous

Oh my word!
Wed Jul 30 2008, 09:39

FACEBOOK HAS REMOVED the popular word game Scrabulous from its US and Canadian sites following a recent lawsuit brought by Hasbro against the game's creators, Rajat Agarwalla and Jayant Agarwalla of RJ Softwares.

Although an online version of the original Scrabble board is still available on Facebook, users with a US or Canadian profile who attempt to play Scrabulous receive a message noting the game has been disabled until further notice.

Hasbro has claimed that Scrabulous utilised "essential and original elements " of the well-known board game and complained that the names "Scrabulous" and " Scrabble" are "confusingly similar".

Although Mattel owns the rights to Scrabble in almost 120 other countries, Hasbro is seeking damages, legal costs, and the total elimination of Scrabulous. µ

Pah!

The names "Scrabulous" and "Scrabble" are "confusingly similar"

Not at all... You could possibly deduce that Scrabulous was inspired by Scrabble, but the words are hardly similar. In fact given that I suspect it's a contraction of Fabulous and Scrabble, it only actually owes 3 letter to the word Scrabble.
Those 3 letters could have come from Scratch, hmmm Scrabulous, the new name for relieving a really annoying itch... Ahhh, bliss.

Then again, when have lawyers ever lived in the real world?
