ATI set to rise on fresh takeover rumours

Rumour mill revolving again

MORE RUMOURS are doing the Interweb rounds that AMD could snap up ATI.

The latest to emerge is on a Chinese site, which claims that it's a foregone conclusion, and there's another spin on another site, here.

The first site cites a feller "close to the negotiations".

Dave-orton--ati-ceoYesterday ATI (tick: ATYT) closed at $15.45, up 73 cents on the day, a five per cent changed. ATI rival Nvidia (tick: NVDA) was down by nearly a dollar to stand at $20.63.

AMD fell 70 cents to shut at $23.90, while INTC was down 61 cents to $18.75. Whether it's all true or just a chimera, expect some movements in a few different stocks.

If AMD did buy ATI, it certainly would have a heck of a lot of digesting to do. Hector Ruiz has trodden a slow and careful path since he took over the reigns of power from Jerry Sanders III. Could his digestion cope with another 4,000 staff and a whole different set of games to play? µ
