Seagate has 3GBps Serial ATA setup

Stunning

SEAGATE HAD A 3GBPS SATA setup at IDF last week, a first as far as I am aware. While some have shown multiple 1.5GB drives connected to a 3GBps controller with a port multiplier, Seagate had the real deal. It was stunning, even to a sarcastic person like me, see?

Yes, I know, it is really, amazingly dull to look at, but I have to spin a couple of boxes and an oscilloscope somehow. For the squinty eyed among you, the eye on the oscilloscope is blurry because the drive is doing random reads and writes. It is clean though, and that is what matters.

The point is that both drives and controllers are working as of last week. Products that take advantage of the increased bandwidth are coming to the market soon, and with a four way port multiplier, things suddenly get quite interesting. µ
