KOREAN FIRM Hynix - already badly beaten up by the European Union and the US over what are claimed to be subsidies from the South Korean government, faces a fresh onslaught from Taiwanese memory makers, it transpires.

According to the Economic News wire, a consortium of Taiwanese memory makers will press for their government to impose swingeing tariffs on Hynix chips too.

Nanya, Winbond, Mosel V and ProMOS will all gang up to kick Hynix while it's steel reeling from the big tariffs the EU and the US have imposed.

If Hynix isn't very careful, it may find itself the victim of a phenomenon known to chicken breeders and avian buffs - a repeated pecking to death. ยต
