Steely Paul demonstrates Banias

Working silicon out

EVIDENCE THAT FUTURE INTEL mobile processors, codenamed Banias, are well advanced is demonstrated by an article posted on Van's Hardware yesterday.

Intel president Paul Otellini showed a working demo of a Banias processor at Microsoft's WinHEC conference yesterday and Van Smith managed to capture a shot of the inside of the box.

The article claims that the system shown is developed using a Pentium III core, but we wonder whether Intel's got one or two versions of Banias kicking about.

We knew that Banias was well advanced after we published details of processor speeds and the like several days ago.

But this is the first clear evidence that Intel is motoring away on the new mobile processor, which is scheduled for launch in the first quarter of next year.

The same article also mentions how Otellini stressed the importance of hyperthreading in future versions of its processors.

And you can find the pictures and the words over here. µ
