The NIKE+IPOD kit will cost $29 and comes in two parts. A transmitter which you pop into your trainer and a receiver that attaches to the base of the iPOD. Apple says that the protocol used on the wireless link is proprietary. However, it is probably based on Bluetooth since it works at the same frequency - 2.4 GHZ.
The system will then feed back data from the sensor that monitors time, distance, and pace. You can listen to this information over the music; upload it to your computer or transmit it to a new Web site, nikeplus.com.
Both the kit and compatible trainer - the $100 Air Zoom Moire are currently listed as out of stock. But they should become available in a couple of months time.
You'll also need to upgrade to iTunes version 6.0.5 to be able to sync with your Nikes.
As the kit adds a wireless capability to the iPod it could conceivably be utilised to connect to a Bluetooth headset, for example. µ
